Project description
In the coming decade, societies need to adjust all human activities within environmental limits while ensuring that these policies are societally legitimate and fair. Societies need to transform into eco-welfare states. However, the current and emergent policy tools, governance models and prior research are fragmented and insufficient for reaching this goal. The purpose of the ORSI project is to produce research knowledge and practical mechanisms that will help public authorities to effectively steer and facilitate a systemic change towards an eco-welfare state. In collaboration with a network of interaction partners, the project will develop impact-driven steering tools, governance models and pathways to reach an eco-welfare state, and normative conceptualizations and ethical practices for effective eco-social policy. The focal areas include selected major and contradictory eco-social domains such as public budgeting, urban innovation, transportation, circular economy and consumption.
