Beskrivning av projektet
The main objective of the research is to change of paradigm of fragile ceramics to adapt idea of ductile or plastic behaviour of ceramic nanostructures. This enables totally new design principles of nanostructures of functional coatings and surfaces. When we find a way to control the mechanism of plastic deformation in ceramics, we have tool for upscaling the structures from 2D to 3D constructions. That gives a totally new tool for material and nanostructure design. Project utilizes both the bottom-to-top approach and top-to-bottom strategy. We seek fundamental understanding of ceramic plasticity starting from the molecular modelling and in-situ testing in electron microscope. Top to bottom approach proceeds via mesoscale modelling, testing and advanced manufacturing towards the nanoscale.
