Project description
In many electronic devices, such as thin-film solar cells, charge selectivity of the contacts is essential - poor charge selectivity is directly reflected as a decline in the performance of the device. A contact that is highly selective will efficiently extract (or inject) one type of charge whereas the other charge type is blocked. Metal contacts are typically not selective enough, charge selective interlayers are often introduced to improve the charge selectivity. In fact, charge selective interlayers are crucial components in emerging thin-film photovoltaic technologies such as organic and perovskite solar cells. The main objective of this project is to clarify how the selectivity of a charge selective interlayer depends on the properties of the constituent materials, such as thickness, charge carrier density and mobility. The knowledge gained will be used in optimizing the design of selective layers based on doped organic semiconductors, to be used in Perovskite solar cells.
