Project description
The age of Anthropocene prompts reconceptualising and retheorizing capitalism in International Relations and IPE and social sciences more broadly. Assemblage thinking combined with insights from peri- and postcapitalism offers fruitful points of departure for such retheorization. Pericapitalism stands for processes that are both outside and inside capitalism. Postcapitalism highlights economic diversity and suggests that something novel must be added to the ways in which our economies are organized. In the project, we analyse four pericapitalist sites: the university, urban rooftop garden, dormitory in a migrant metropolis and dementia. The research is organised as a non-local ethnography, and it is expected to cultivate awareness of diverse and proliferative economic ontologies. This type of knowledge serving positive projects of economic and societal reconstruction is needed as societal progress tales lose their appeal with the awareness of the scale of human impact on our planet.
