Project description
How can consumers be sure that they eat what they think they eat?The FORK project responds to the trends of power consumerism, personalized nutrition services and digitalization of food commerce by developing better regulation for a modified food chain. It targets legal barriers to sustainable food policy that prevent global market access for foods and services with health or societal benefits. It produces hybrid governance models that distribute responsibility for food monitoring between public officials, industry and consumers depending on food safety risk level. We harness digital opportunities; reusing private sector big data for public interest purposes. Better food regulation furthers SDG2 objectives of reducing hidden hunger and promoting sustainable food entrepreneurship. It targets fraudulent food practices as a major contributor to malnutrition worldwide. It anticipates disruptions in global food markets and consumption due to changing consumer preferences and food e-commerce.
