Project description
Hydraulic systems of mobile working machines are based on throttle controlled cylinder actuators. The technology is widely used due to relatively low price and high power density. The downside of the technology are the large power losses leading to unnecessary big CO2 and particle emissions in diesel-operated machines. The goal of the project is to study a novel hydraulic system, which is capable of reducing majority of the power losses and reaches a new level of control performance. The basic operation principle of the new hydraulic system is to transfer the hydraulic power to the actuators via a number of constant pressure lines, each having a unique pressure level. The project focuses on studying such system layouts and their control methods. Furthermore, the project studies fault tolerant hydraulic power transfer, which is a unique feature of the concept. The biggest challenges relate to the complex control problem and the mitigation of the pressure transients in the supply lines.
