Project description
The fidelity of DNA replication is central for the short-term survival of the organism while the evolution enabled by the replication errors is crucial for its long-term success. The project studies the properties of local template switch mutations, causing short stretches of dissimilarities between the sequences, across various species and their genomes. A subset of template switch mutations create or correct reverse-complement sequences. The role of these in the evolution of RNA genes is examined.
