Project description
At present, the high cost of drilling deep wells in hard rock formation is the main obstacle for reaching the deep geothermal heat for commercial usage. One of the main problems causing an increase in drilling costs is the poor energy efficiency of drilling. However, most of the energy used for drilling is not consumed in fragmenting the rock. Therefore, this project comes to use the energy consumption determination, develop a theoretical-empirical model of the drilling energy consumption derived from a drilling test with advanced dynamic testing techniques, and showcase in a practical industry application. Further, this project will not only greatly advance the mechanism and theoretical foundation of percussive drill-hard rock interaction to innovate the drilling process and reduce drilling costs, especially of deep geothermal wells, but also create an analyser that automatically computes the energy consumption in fields to evaluate the drilling efficiency in real-time.
