Project description
TRAMSEP is a scientific project aiming to investigate the transport mechanisms of Solar Energetic Particles (SEPs) in the interplanetary space. SEPs are enhanced fluxes of namely electrons, protons, and heavier ions that can reach relativistic energies, and can pose danger on humans’ life and activities in space and on ground. The transport of SEPs is affected throughout the interplanetary space by the complex background interplanetary magnetic field and solar wind. This topic is not yet well studied and TRAMSEP will aim to contribute in its understanding. For the purpose of this research remote sensing and in-situ observations, as well as state-of the art numerical models will be employed. The project will be carried out at the University of Helsinki by Dr. Eleanna Asvestari. TRAMSEP will have an important scientific impact since it will address several aspects of fundamental plasma physics and provide vital information for Space Weather forecasting and a sustainable space.
