Project description
The beneficial impact of whole grain consumption is well demonstrated in epidemiological studies. Even when the link between whole grains and health is well known, the components in grains responsible for the bioactivity, as well as the endogenous metabolic events involved are unknown. Our research group has recently discovered a group of compounds that are elevated in humans after clinical interventions and are related to glucose homeostasis, and are potentially involved in the function of gut microbiota. Our current project aims at elucidating in detail the metabolic role of these novel compounds in a series of investigations involving in vitro, animal, and human studies addressed with modern analytical technologies.
