Project description
Waste is generated at an alarming rate in our society. Gasification can be used to recover chemicals and energy from waste and biomass. This project investigates chemical challenges that limits the use of waste in gasification. The topics to be investigated are: (1) release of phosphorous, (2) release of lead and zinc (3) release of nitrogen and (4) conversion of fuel bound nitrogen to ammonia and recovery of ammonia. Nonintrusive laser measurements and advanced mathematical modeling will be used to clarify the release of these elements, so that the use of impure biomass and waste can be increased, more elements can be recovered, corrosion problems can be minimized and harmful emissions can be minimized in future gasification systems.
