Project description
Here, novel theoretical and computational methods for many-body quantum phenomena out of equilibrium are developed and applied. Using the methodology, e.g. ultrafast-switching quantum transport in nanoscale systems is investigated. The innovation lies within the generality of the formulation; strong external fields, many-body correlations, and transient effects are simultaneously taken into consideration. Many fundamental and open questions may thus be addressed, e.g. the operational speed of a quantum device. The most important method is the equation of motion for the nonequilibrium Green's function of many-body systems. The proposal will not only widen the understanding of ultrafast phenomena in quantum transport and spectroscopy, but it will also extend the toolbox of theoretical methods for similar research.
