Project description
This project aims to purchase a digital Positron Emission Tomography Magnetic Resonance (PET-MR) imaging system that enables simultaneous acquisition. Simultaneous PET-MR imaging opens up possibility for completely new scientific approaches especially in brain research, but also other medical fields. MRI offers excellent spatial and temporal resolution and functional imaging capabilities, while PET offers superior sensitivity and specificity for huge spectrum of various molecular imaging targets. The new system would allow novel scientific and clinical applications. Turku PET Centre is a National research institute focusing on multimodal molecular imaging using PET, MR and Computed Tomography and ultrasound. It is one of the key players in the field in national and international level. The imaging infrastructure, expertise and experience of more than 40 years makes the research environment very attractive. The proposed simultaneous PET-MR system will be the first in Finland.
