Beskrivning av projektet
Waste is one of the most urgent environmental and social problems faced by humanity today. It is unavoidable excess, for whose existence and production we are responsible, but which also returns to us in the form of new givens, conditioning our everyday life, institutions and relations with each other. The Waste Society project produces novel theoretical and empirical insights into waste and its role in society, consumption and the contemporary way of life. By studying the mundane solid waste practices both in households and in the public waste management sector we seek to track the 'biographies' of things from usage to disposal, sorting out, management, salvage and recycling. The project aims to increase the understanding of the ways we live and deal with waste and thus raise public awareness of the intrinsic sociality of waste.
