The project studies topical questions in geometric analysis, for instance properties of vector valued variational integrals; these appear naturally in several questions in physics and engineering. The project aims e.g. to characterise in concrete terms those energy functionals of non-linear elasticity that do allow an energy minimising configuration - this leads to deep and difficult mathematical questions that the project aims to settle. Other research topics in mathematics include nonlinear partial differential equations, different questions in conformal geometry and geometric properties of certain two dimensional models in statistical physics. The research is based on intensive collaboration with leading international and domestic researchers. The project will also advance mobility of researchers and research training. |
