Our research grows out of a current social phenomenon. In Finland as well as internationally, there is a growing movement - the anti- vaccine movement - with strong foothold especially in certain regions of the country. The general purpose of the anti-vaccine movement is to question the current practice of vaccines. Several studies show that the anti-vaccine movement has a more complex ideology in challenging biomedical understanding of health.
This situation creates a need to understand the resistance movement's ideological world. Since this kind of resistance movement is both visible in the public sphere and evoking emotional responses, we need a broad approach in order to understand the phenomenon. We have thus designed a project that takes up this challenge. Through an empirically driven project we take an interdisciplinary and multi-metodological approach.Hence we'll investigate the existential beliefs and moral commitments that are involved in this peculiar battle for health!
