Beskrivning av projektet
The project addresses civil disobedience and closely related phenomena under circumstances characterized by omnipresent social media, migration, politicised ethnic relations, new vigilantism, authorised and unauthorised digital surveillance, and even cyber-war. Its empirical cases are from the Nordic countries, which have been characterised by high levels of trust between citizens and government, a virtue that is increasingly difficult to uphold. What takes place around civil disobedience – or more broadly, ignoring the law for political and moral reasons – is an indicator of the functioning of civil society and the legitimacy of government. Today, disobedient citizens and groups make the media headlines almost daily, from activist church members hiding paperless refugees to Sámi fishing protests and unauthorized nationalist street patrols. Given the new strategies and channels of influence, we feel that this is exactly the right moment to examine the concept and related practices
