Frustrated Lewis pairs are recently discovered chemical systems, wherein the interaction between Lewis acid and base is structurally prevented. This frustration causes high internal reactivity into the system, which will be further utilized in this project for activation of small molecules and carbon-hydrogen bonds.
Among small molecules, the major focus will be on molecular hydrogen and on possibilities to use the above described phenomenon in elaboration of hydrogen storage, development of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and e.g. in the chemical modification of carbon dioxide and further utilization.
Second part of the project focuses on applicability of frustrated Lewis pairs in activation of carbon-hydrogen bonds. C–H borylation is a powerful and atom-efficient method for converting affordable and abundant chemicals into versatile organic reagents used in the production of fine chemicals and functional materials.
