Beskrivning av projektet
This research examines subjective experiences of being under surveillance. While there is some research on mundane surveillance practices, research on individual experiences of those practices and of being monitored is scarce and spread to various disconnected fields. This project builds on three case studies which aim to fill said gap. We review previous research from multiple disciplines (1), widen their perspective through examining surveillance critical art (2), and analyze surveillance experiences through a qualitative empirical data set (3). This project aims to recognize common and specific traits in subjective understandings of surveillance. That knowledge is utilized in formulating future research and developing theoretical understanding. The results are also communicated to the public in the aim that people would be better informed on surveillance around them and would be able to make more informed decisions regarding it. We work in co-operation with the University of Ottawa.
