Project description
Biological processes fundamentally originate from rapid biomolecular dynamics. This is, however, very difficult to assess experimentally. Computer simulations based on classical molecular dynamics (MD) models have became increasingly popular to complement the experimental data. This work aims to upgrade MD simulations from a mere model to a tool that gives an atomic resolution interpretation for experimental NMR data of complex biochemical systems. The developed combined approach is applied to understand how vital nutrients are dynamically transported into bacteria. The impact of MD simulations in biochemical applications is further increased by extending the NMRlipids project (nmrlipids.blogspot.fi), an Open Collaboration led by the applicant to understand biomolecular dynamics. The findings in this research can be applied in the design of novel antibiotics and the next generation scientific communication.
