Project description
Single-cell high-throughput sequencing (HTS) is a fascinating experimental technology that can quantify genome, transcriptome and epigenome for individual cells. This technology enables accurate quantification of e.g. extremely small and/or heterogeneous biological samples, such as cancer biopsies, that were beyond the reach of previous technologies. Thus, single-cell HTS is likely to facilitate ground-breaking new results in both molecular biology and biomedicine. Analysis of single-cell HTS data is challenging and sophisticated statistical and computational tools are needed so that reliable biological conclusions can be drawn from the data. We will develop new statistical methods to quantify gene regulatory mechanisms from single-cell data and apply our tools together with our collaborators in exciting single-cell applications in immunology and embryonic stem cell biology.
