Project description
Ipad did not kill paper. Paper is not dead. It is just slow to invest and innovate. Finnish hardwood pulp prices are however decreasing quickly which requires development of new processes or products. Herein, we describe an economical scheme for production of low-cost and highly functional hardwood-based nanocelluloses for wide application in academia and industry. We hope specifically the cost reduction will allow for development of bulk applications. We aim on developing a novel fibre-spinning technology where we have fine controll over the mechanical properties and have the potential to easily incorporate functionality which would help us target applications such as textiles to water purification. The results would further strengthen Finland as an emerging leader in the area of nanocellulose and textiles.
