Project description
The aim of this project is to introduce a multiscale approach to understand deeply the science behind the core issue in modeling and analysis of gas-solid multiphase flow systems. These systems are found in some key technologies such as the fluidized bed technology applied to advanced boilers, gasifiers, and calcium looping plants for carbon capture and storage. The research methods applied in this project are based on the state-of-the-art methods in physics and applied mathematics (computational). A postgraduate researcher from LUT will visit Duke University where part of advanced experiments are performed there. A postdoctoral researcher will visit New Jersey Institute of Technology for a part of computer simulations. The rest of experiments and simulations will be done in LUT. The results of this project will lead to great impact on the economy and environment by reducing the cost of energy production and the emission of green-house gases.
