Project description
Growing time pressure and fragmentation of time are frightening trends in working life. Even if time is a powerful ruler in working life, it has not come to the spotlight in empirical research. In our multi-disciplinary research project we explore the power of time in three different work environments. We ask how time and time-related tensions are produced and maintained in organizations, and what kinds of reflections they have on people, and how these tensions could be eased with HRM and leadership practices. Our main research question is: What is the power of time like in contemporary work organizations? We approach this question by three work packages: A. Sense of time among middle managers in project industry, B. Timescapes in media houses and C. Reflections of time structures on personnel in SME’s. We draw on mixed method interpretativism (Denzin, 2010) and organizational ethnography (see Eberle & Maeder 2011) as research methods.
