Kuopio Osteoporosis Risk Factor and Prevention (OSTPRE) Study - a population-based prospective cohort study begun in 1989 -
investigates genetic and acquired factors associated with falls, fractures, BMD and bone loss in 14,220 postmenopausal women. Postal
enquiry to the whole cohort, and bone densitometry with other examinations to 3200 women have been performed at 5 year intervals. In addition, the unique study design allows us to examine whether osteoporosis and certain chronic health disorders share common risk

promote healthy ageing. In addition an exercise RCT to study fall prevention was started.
