Project description
The objective of the project is to greatly increase the predictive tools and capabilities of the energy industry to quantitatively understand high-temperature corrosion in biomass and waste-fired heat and power boilers, as well as in heat recovery boilers in pyrometallurgical processes. A new research tool will be developed to predict high-temperature corrosion in heat and power boilers based on first-principles, experimental data, and artificial neural networks, and at the same time provide both boiler manufacturers and operators a knowledge that can be used to estimate risk of corrosion, and optimize both the efficiency and availability of the modern and future boilers. The project will go further in coupling deposit chemistry and morphology with the corrosion behavior of different steels, especially deposit-induced corrosion, for industrial processes, and to develop new models where detailed process-specific properties of the deposit chemistry and morphology are considered
