In this study, we assess the professional competence of nurses in the transition period from education to early years of practice. This period is extremely important for a successful nursing career. Competence of nurses is important for all users of health care services. This improves the safe, high-quality, patient-centered and affordable care. In the future, this importance is highlighted due to changing sociodemographic, requirements of chronic conditions and new technology, increasing needs for health promotion and
counselling of population. We will assess the level of competence and factors connected with it. The data will be collected from nurses at the graduation and one year after, as well as from administrators and patients in Finland, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, Spain. We report the study findings at international and national level, also for the stakeholders in a reporting workshop in the end of the study project.
