This multi-disciplinary project considers contemporary Finnish loaning and reading culture. The project is based on a wide empirical and digitally preserved material collected by Vantaa City Library. This material gives information of loaners' choices and preferences. It mentions each loaner's age, sex, dwelling place and language, as well as his or her libarary loans, but it does not reveal his or her name and identity. On the basis of this material, the project constructs a description of people's loaning and reading habits in contemporary Finland. Likewise, the project asks what sort of people maintain today literarary culture in Finland. In addition, the project has a methodological goal. It aims at showhing how large digital material, computational analysis and literature-sociological research questions can be united in study of contemporary (reading) culture. The project's practical meaning lies in that it results help the officials to elaborate upon library services.
