Project description
Development is very intense in the fetal period, infancy and adolescence. Dramatic changes happen in biological-hormonal, emotional, social, cognitive and neural domains. Experiences during these phases have decisive impacts on future mental health. Therefore, it is fascinating to examine how the early fetal- and infancy-time biological, psychological, and social factors predict the adolescent development. The study follows 750 Finnish families from pregnancy to late adolescence, and aims to understand how early pre-, peri- and postnatal biological factors, family relationships and parental mental health predict adolescents attachment relations, emotion regulation, psychophysiological and neural development and mental health. The results should benefit general understanding of adolescence and serve family and adolescent consultation and preventions.
