Project description
One million people live alone in Finland. Living alone is associated with various psychological and social challenges such as poorer experienced health, more psychological problems and poorer quality of life. Project's overall aim is to gain a deeper understanding of the factors and mechanism related to well-being of adults living alone in Finland. Our main objective is to study the associations between living alone and aspects of well-being such as positive mental health, quality of life and social support. A multi-method approach is emphasized through data, methodology and research triangulation in order to answer the research questions. The research project combines quantitative data from existing datasets with new data from empirically conducted questionnaire survey and qualitative focus group interviews. We expect to reveal novel understandings of aspects of well-being related to living alone and offer solutions to the challenges that living alone entails.
