Project description
The proposed research belongs to philosophical logic, one of the core areas of theoretical philosophy. It is conducted at the Department of Philosophy, History, Culture and Art Studies of the University of Helsinki. The main objectives of the project are the development of a novel logical methodology for the representation of the inferential processes of philosophical logic, on the basis of results within general proof theory, and the study of the sources of related modal concepts in European philosophy. As applications of the research, inferential systems are obtained that guide the use of modalities and conditionals in theories of formal epistemology, and in conditional and counterfactual reasoning.
