Project description
Memristors are basic components of envisioned neuromorphic computers, which mimic the functioning of the brain. The brain is overwhelmingly efficient in e.g. pattern recognition, fuzzy logic or content addressable memory. In this project, we will make memristors from low one-electron bandwidth manganite thin films in order to achieve a memristor based on the Mott metal to insulator transition (MIT). In MIT the resistance of the oxide can change several orders of magnitude and since it is a first order phase transition, it allows the necessary metastable states. MIT based memristors will be faster and more endurable than the currently developed devices. The optimized memristors will be deposited on silicon for better integration with current electronics.
