Project description
Cascade catalytic transformations possess significant challenges as the conditions for all individual transformations could be different, moreover there could be interactions between the catalytic species and the active sites of a particular catalyst, which are not necessarily beneficial. The rate of processes should be harmonized; otherwise one type of catalysis could be for instance substrate starved thus diminishing the benefits of the multiple operation. The following scientific challenges will be addressed : design of materials when diffusion between sites is in harmony with kinetics; characterization of these novel materials, development of reaction-diffusion models determining optimal arrangements of metal sites in dense systems; optimization based on fundamental knowledge, the distance, cluster size and distribution of nanoparticles thus creating catalysts with superior performance
