Project description
This study examines how place matters in providing services in home-spaces for adults with complex needs. Our interest is on how service interactions unfold when workers enter clients natural environments and private places. The focus is on the tensions between public vs private, support vs surveillance and inclusion vs exclusion. The study combines concepts from ethnomethodological interaction studies and human geography. The data will be gathered in mental health floating support services, in home-based intoxication services and in supported housing services in Finland and Sweden. It will contain ethnographic field notes based on mobile ethnography and recordings on interactions between workers and clients in home-spaces. The study produces knowledge that has a clear societal relevance: what kinds of impacts the policy shift leading to physical changes of service places has on micro level service interactions and eventually on the everyday lives of service users.
