Social media has become increasingly important channel for the alcohol indistry to market alcoholic products. In 2015 Finland became the first country in the world to regulate such social media content. The objectives of the project are three-fold. Firstly, it evaluates the impact of the Finnish Alcohol Act restrictions of alcohol marketing in social media. Secondly, it examines the strategies of online alcohol marketing strategies and, thirdly, develops tools for educating young of these strategies. The Project is implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the Finnish Association for Substance Abuse Prevention. The data consist of alcohol advertising posts in social media from Finland and Sweden, collected at three time points. The project gives new insights into the possibilities to regulate online advertising of potentially harmful products. It also facilitates young people to become more aware of the influences of online alcohol marketing.
