Beskrivning av projektet
Speech perception in noise in children with hearing impairment (HI) or normal hearing (NH) has not been investigated in Finland before, because of the lack of standardized, norm-referenced tests. We have been norming the Children’s test of word recognition in noise (complies with the EN ISO 8253-3 (2012) standard). The test has been developed within the scope of academy research fellow project. We have tested 154 children aged 3–15 years. Norming is in the final straight. Findings show that speech recognition in noise in children with NH is weaker compared to adults (clear advancements at ages 3 to 7). Test utilization with children with HI has started in spring 2018 in all University Hospitals in Finland. Reproduction of loud auditory environment has been piloted in Helsinki University Hospital, and based on that, technical solutions on reproduction of auditory environments have been implemented to University of Oulu for further research, funding application 324229/September 2018.
