Beskrivning av projektet
Database driven science for new materials (DataSciMat) is an interdisciplinary network at Aalto University aimed at a) facilitating the transfer of knowledge from scientific studies to industry, and b) streamlining the development of materials-to-product value chains. DataSciMat investigates why the recent Big Data buzz has not yet been taken up in Materials Science, despite the unprecedented opportunities big data provides for materials discovery and design and for novel applications and products. The project conducts a socio-economic analysis of how to turn (big) database driven materials science from margins to mainstream and thus into a global, workable paradigm for industrial adoption. In a field study with an industrial end-user, DataSciMat also examines current developments in energy efficient materials to present a "success story" that attracts database driven materials science to both academia and industry.
