In this research project, we developed and evaluated game-based learning of economics. Researchers and collaborators prepared together tools to improve economic literacy and behavior of 9th grade pupils. We created two questionnaires for pupils to evaluate economic literacy and behavior. In addition, we prepared separate questionnaires for parents and teachers. Around 40 schools from 12 different towns participated in the project. In addition, we did interviews with game developers and teachers who use games. Some schools participated in game-based interventions, whereas some schools were in the position of control schools. Learning outcomes improved considerably in those schools which participated in game-based interventions compared to the schools, where teaching was more traditional. According to the teachers, technical challenges were the main constraint in preventing wider use of games. Pupils viewed game-based methods overwhelmingly positive.
