This project has studied the utilization potential of a new ultrasensitive sensor of electromagnetic radiation. This project was based on a theoretical discovery, by the project PI, of a giant thermoelectric effect expected to take place in hybrid superconductor/ferromagnet structures. During this project the PI created a consortium which received an EU FET Open funding to develop the detector during the next four years. This project thus served to create a roadmap for the EU project. The roadmap consists of two primary publications describing the figures of merit of the detector in different types of settings. This detector could be used in various applications, from space telescopes to thermal cameras and materials characterization. A thermoelectric detector would perform much better than the best superconducting sensors used today, for example due to the fact that no bias lines are needed. Besides the roadmap publications, we have also applied for a patent for the detector concept.
