Beskrivning av projektet
Bacterial resistance towards antimicrobial drugs has developed and spread rapidly, and is attracting great international interest at the moment. The epidemiology and ecology of antimicrobial resistance is transmitting also between animals and humans. In certain bacteria such as ESBL/pAmpC- producing Escherichia coli (ESBL) and livestock-associated Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (LA-MRSA) has increased during past years. In this project, the role of egg in transmitting ESBL bacteria from hen to chicken, was studied. Also applicability of phage therapy to prevent MRSA carriage in pigs was studied. This project produced new data on the development and spread of zoonotic AMR bacteria for Finnish food and pharmaceutical industry as well as for researchers, and created new contacts between partners.
