The mid-infrared range (~2-20 µm) is a spectral region of great interest to enormous applications, such as spectroscopy, and bio-molecular sensing, and security. The project’s goal was to investigate the industrial utilization of mid-infrared lasers (mainly fiber lasers mode-locked with nano-materials, such as two-dimensional layered materials).
The project has been implemented very successfully. We have closely collaborated with our industrial and academic partners to fully release the great potential of mid-infrared lasers for health and wellbeing applications.
We have focused on two key utilization research fields, namely, sensing and imaging. The results have been published on various high-impact journals, such as 2 Nature Photonics, 1 Nature Materials, 6 Nature Communications, 5 Advanced Materials. We have also filled 1 patent application, and have just submitted 1 Business Finland TUTL project proposal to commercialize the technologies developed in this project.
