With the increasing average age in the population, efficacious treatments against cancer are becoming highly important. It is hoped that cancer would one day become manageable similar to Diabetes or AIDS, by life-style adjustments and a cocktail of medicals. Cancer requires personalized approaches.
We have identified new drug candidates that target one of the most notorious cancer genes, called K-ras. By specifically targeting K-ras, cancer stem cells are efficiently eradicated. Importantly, a set of about a dozen genes can predict the sensitivity to our drugs. We will validate the predictive power of such genes for treatment with our new compounds in order to enable future personalized medicine approaches.
