Beskrivning av projektet
The goal of the project is to develop microfabricated immobilized enzyme microreactors for the purposes of drug metabolism research in general and for production of metabolite standards. An important application area of such devices is the ecotoxicology view related to drug development, including prediction of the environmental (adverse) effects of drugs and their metabolites in vitro, or production of metabolite standards to facilitate monitoring of environmental drug residues. So far, three different approaches have been taken and developed in parallel: Droplet based microreactors for rapid prediction of the drug's metabolic clearance. Ink-jet printed, paper based microreactors for rapid screening of metabolic interactions. Continuous flow microreactors for rapid production of metabolites and for their general (cyto)toxicity assessment. Optimization of all of the different concepts via numerical and experimental approaches is currently under way.
