The motor control relies greatly proprioception (“movement sense”). The brain mechanisms of proprioception and roles in sensorimotor integration are still largely unknown in humans, and even more so in diseased humans. We have developed and utilized a movement actuators for neuroimaging (MEG, EEG, fMRI) to study the structure and function of the proprioception related brain network, and its role in diseased (CP) brain. We have initiated test to aiming for clinical use of our new tools for evaluating sensorimotor deficits in CP patients, and for early identification of CP in infants. We have developed a objective tool to quantify a persons ability to perceive limb movments., i.e., detect proprioceptive impairment. Our initial results indicate that structure and function of the brain, proprioception, touch, and motor performance are associated in healthy individuals.
