Youth are insufficiently active for their health. Schools have an excellent opportunity for fostering motivation for physically active lifestyle. This project aimed to support school staff in such efforts, and to better utilize behavioural scientific understanding on sustained, intrinsic motivation and behaviour change. We further developed and disseminated evidence-based strategies to increase physical activity and reduce excessive sedentary behaviours, and created novel trainings on motivational interaction.
In year 1, we piloted staff training and adapted dissemination materials based on the Letís Move It program.
In year 2, we disseminated the program nationally by training school staff (face-to-face and online, continuing professional education and novice teacher education). Training and support materials were published at www.letsmoveit.fi, and project partners (e.g. Finnish Schools on the Move) will continue using and disseminating the outputs also after the project ends.
