Beskrivning av projektet
The main aim of the project was to develop concrete models for the re-design and implementation of environmental impact assessment (EIA) legislation in Finland. The project was implemented by preparing studies and guidance on EIA law, producing statements for the relevant ministries and Parliament and by participating to impact assessment of the regulatory proposals. The project also provided education for all stakeholders. The project produced various suggestions for amendments and provided knowledge on the impacts of alternative regulatory choices. According to project, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and EIA follow up are the most important areas where further regulatory improvements are needed. The handbook on EIA law, theory and practice (Pölönen & Perho: YVA-oikeus (EIA Law), 2018) is the most significant output of the project.
