Passive implantable sensors have a huge potential for wireless in vivo measurement of physiological parameters in challenging locations of the human body. They provide new technology to the existing catheter-based biomedical transducers and battery powered implants. We have previously developed and tested customized passive pressure sensors in specific in vitro models for wireless intracranial pressure (ICP) measurement. In this project, we have investigated the long-term in vivo performance of the fully implantable sensors for both acute and chronic wireless ICP monitoring to address the biological complications in patients with traumatic brain injury, hydrocephalus and idiopathic intracranialhypertension. Due to their lifesaving impacts, these sensors have a significant potential for commercialization and thereby, opening the opportunities for establishing local startup companies to bring the clinically approved prototypes to the biomedical market.
