Project description
This project aims to identify the role of endosomal trafficking factor named SORL1 in regulation of HER2 type of breast cancers. About every fifth breast cancer patient has amplification of HER2 gene, which leads to more aggressive breast cancer. Whilst there exists several therapeutics targeting HER2 amplified breast cancers, still most of the tumors acquire resistant against the therapy, leading to tumor relapse. We have linked the SORL1 in regulation of HER2 tumorigenecity for the first time, since previosuly the SORL1 is studied in Alzheimer's disease. We have found that by silencing the expression of SORL1 in HER2 breast cancer cell lines, cells can not proliferate as efficiently as control cells and they become more sensitive to anti-HER2 therapies. In the future, by targeting the SORL1 expression, could lead to more beneficial therapies against the HER2 breast cancers. Moreover, this research will also improve our current knowledge on the regulation of HER2 tumorigenesis.
