Project description
This study examines value learning and agency in childhood with an ecological approach. It looks into Finnish childrens' views on (a) what they regard as valuable in their everyday environments, and (b) what influences they regard as significant in affecting their value learning trajectories; first at age 6, and a year later, after transition to school. The data are generated with children's multi-method 'stories' (photos, videos, drawings) utilizing tablet computers, and video recorded in-depth interviews on these, together with a parental survey study. The analysis focuses on children's conceptions of eg good/bad, righ /wrong, together with justifications, and views on how and where they have learned these. In the pluralistic, mosaic society with hardened, polarized values, it is important to know how present-day children construct their individual value systems. The data will be analysed with content analysis and with an analytical tool for examining meaning making.
