Project description
This longitudinal study provides evidence-based knowledge for developing teacher education from the perspective of ICT in education. For this purpose, the study focuses on pre-service teachers’ developing technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) using a mixed-methods approach. TPACK is a theoretical framework of seven elements for studying (pre-service) teachers’ professional knowledge of pedagogically meaningful use of ICT in education. The research results describe the contents, structure, and development of TPACK. Elements of TPACK are typically difficult to acknowledge and articulate. For this reason, the data will be collected in three ways using questionnaires, lesson descriptions, and interviews. Research data will be collected during four semesters at the University of Eastern Finland and University of Jyväskylä. The target group consists of a cohort of pre-service teachers (N=240) starting their studies in 2016. This cohort will be followed for four years.
